Power Monitoring System sweetens the pot for Hershey facility

It may be a sweet thing to work in the candy industry, but just like every other industrial enterprise, The Hershey Company manufacturing plant in Stuarts Draft, Virginia (USA), needs electrical power to create all those tasty treats and plant management has taken a proactive approach to its power usage.

Already working with Square D Powerlogic System products from Schneider Electric since the late 1990s, Hershey’s corporate engineering arm recently integrated power monitoring and control system equipment with the plant’s entire power distribution system. A valuable partnership which brings several benefits for the plant and avoids trouble-shooting problems.

More than that, Powerlogic System also provides:

      • Continuous system status display
      • Monitoring of various functions: power amperage and usage, power quality issues stationed throughout the plant
      • CM4000 mobile circuit monitor with an Ethernet port to gather data from anywhere
      • Major cost savings for the facility

"And we add processes annually," says Lorin Droppa, plant senior designer. "With growing facilities, it’s critical that you prove or disprove whether you have the infrastructure to support your plans. We use the information from the Powerlogic System  to make informed judgments. It plays an influential role in helping us determine if we can meet our plans."

"My job is to basically know the entire electrical picture." And Powerlogic System is helping him to do exactly that.

The Hershey Company is a leading snack food company and the largest North American manufacturer of quality chocolate and non-chocolate confectionery products.
